Do you know what I really miss the most? Those days where we would seat outside, when we were in the village, or in the parlour, when we were in the city and listen attentively as my grandfather or father as the case may be, told us stories or sang songs or even told us stories that had songs in them. They were always interesting. The days of Willy Willy, lady Koi Koi and Bush baby stories. Haha. Those were what we call real horror stories unlike the American slasher/zombie movies that never end (I’m talking about Resident Evil) *rolls eyes*
There is a certain story I won’t forget in a hurry and it goes like this,
There were two sisters, Omalido and dada, who lived in the village with their parents during the Nigerian Civil War. Due to the situation, their supply of food finished so their parents were forced to go to the market to look for food. Before leaving, they warned Omalido and Dada to neither pound anything nor allow smoke to escape. Days past and their parents didn’t return. Naturally they grew hungry and were forced to disobey their parents. Omalido pounded yam while Dada allowed smoke to escape. Igbo warriors who heard the sound and saw the smoke captured them and sold them separately. Omalido luckily got sold to a rich man who she eventually married and bore a son for, while Dada was sold as a slave and later bought by her sister who didn’t recognize her although Dada did. Omalido would maltreatment Dada everyday and leave her baby with Dada whenever she went out to work. Whenever Omalido’s baby cried, Dada would carry him and sing to him in igbo what happened to them. She would chorus, ‘Do… liman do’. This continued for days until Omalido’s neighbours noticed this and asked Omalido to pretend to go to work but instead hide somewhere and listen. This she did and eventually found out that Dada was her long lost sister. Dada forgave her and they lived together.
The moral of the story is to treat everyone you meet kindly. That is the beauty of the igbo tradition, every story has a lesson. I miss those days dearly and hope to do the same with my future children. Let’s keep our tradition alive.

Although, I think the story was set before the 1960's because slavery had long been abolished by then. But if indeed the story was set in the 1960's to 1980's, then Dada would have been a housemaid who was desperate to stay in her job.
Can you remember the chorus for the story?

I still remember the chorus but I don't know how to write it correctly that's why I didn't include it in the story.
I remember he said, 'igbo warriors', so as a child, I assume it's during the war. I may be wrong though. If not then Dada definitely wanted to keep her job as its obvious. She endured maltreatment.
